Perhaps the earliest cup used especially for loose tea, these lidded or "covered' cups are a most useful vessel. The cup of choice in many parts of China they can also be used in lieu of a teapot. The saucer prevents burned finger tips and the lid keeps the tea hot and the aromas in. It is also used to hold back the leaves when sipping.
